It's another cool day in Colorado, but at least it's sunny!  The Open Pre-Juvenile initial round events took place this afternoon, with the Junior and Senior Ladies finals ending the evening.  In her first regionals, Gigi Conger placed 4th in Open Pre-Juvenile freeskate, qualifying her for final rounds!  As well, Lexy Taylor finished 11th in the Juniors Ladies Freeskate and 12th overall.  Congratulations to all who have skated so far - you have represented KCFSC well!

Brrr...did it get cold overnight!  When we arrived at the rink this morning, it was a frigid 40 degrees (outside!) and overcast. It looked like it could start pouring down rain any minute!  Today began with qualifying rounds for Intermediate Ladies (Freeskates) and Junior Ladies Short Programs.  Klaranda Behrens and Mackenzie Osborne placed 10th and 13th respectively in the initial round freeskates for Intermediate Ladies.  Lexy Taylor was 12th in Junior Ladies short.

We saw lots of great skating today - not only from our club members, but also from various elite athletes who train at the Broadmoor!  We were able to catch some of their practices as they prepare for upcoming international events.  Some of the skaters we saw included Jeremy Abbott (2008 National Senior Mens Pewter medalist), Rachael Flatt (2008 National Senior Ladies silver medalist and 2008 Jr. World Champion), Brandon Mroz (2008 National Junior Mens Silver Medalist), Keauna McLaughlin and Rockne Brubaker (2008 National Pairs Champions), and KCFSC home club member John Coughlin and partner Caitlin Yankowskas (2008 World team alternates).  It's amazing to see the energy, commitment and passion these skaters have on the ice!  They are an inspiration to all.

A bit of sad news greeted us upon arrival in Colorado Springs.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to the McKay and Fairchild families and the Tulsa FSC.

Competition activities began today with the Junior Ladies qualifying rounds and the Senior Ladies Short Programs.  Congratulations to Lexy Taylor who qualified for the finals in Junior Ladies, after placing 6th in the initial round freeskate.  Jessica Zhang took 10th place in Senior Ladies Short.

Colorado Springs or Bust!  A number of the competitors are heading to Colorado Springs (or may already be there!) over the next few days.  From the looks of the weather, it could be a cool weekend.  Practices start tomorrow
