November 15, 2008

Hi again from Texas!  Olivia and Tyler had a pretty successful morning. They skated second in the first warm-up and spent the rest of the time cheering on their counterparts.

There were a few very scary falls in lifts and spins during their event. Thankfully all ended well for those teams and no one was seriously injured. Livi and Tyler skated clean and were happy with their performance.

The critiques and award ceremonies took almost 2 hours, so everyone was starving by the time they were done. Kitty volunteered to take a few of the competitors back to the house for pizza and swimming…a few turned into 11 kids. The kids had a great time (minus the another small traffic incident in the garage involving a golf cart, Olivia, Katie Shipstad, Brooke Conrad and Jason Brown…the detail are somewhat fuzzy!) Jason may be ready for his first trip to Senior Nationals this year but I am not so sure he is ready for his license!

The party moved into the pool and hot tub. Tyler led the recovery effort for the outdoor furniture that blew into the deepest end of the pool. He said that pulling a table out of ten feet of water was much harder than lifting Livi!

The time got away with everyone and we all missed Sr Pairs and Sr Ladies. We made it back in time to see the last group of Sr Men. Caitlyn and John held onto their lead and head to their second Nationals together.

The evening ended with the competitor party at an arcade and outdoor fun park. The go-carts were a huge hit! Some unnamed drivers had difficulty figuring out which direction to actually drive on the track….I may have been a bit tiredJ

Overall, Houston was a big success for KCFSC skaters….though, maybe next time we should all take taxis to wherever we are going.

Hope you enjoy some of the fun pictures!

The trip to Midwesterns in SugarLand Texas had a rough start.Olivia was terribly sick, the forecast called for rain, rain, and more rain....and both Tyler's family and Olivia's had long delays on their flights into Houston. Christine Broderick even had the misfortune of a fender-bender on the freeway.  All is well and no one was hurt. The trip only had one way to go from there, up.  :)

Olivia is staying with Kitty Carruthers Conrad and her family, so having a house full of kids to play with made Houston a hit right off the bat. Tyler is spending time with his mom catching up on sleep and schoolwork. The weather was sunny and in the 80's today!

The skating gets more exciting as each day passes. The Novice Men and Ladies finished up today with some great skates.  The highlight so far has definitely been Caitlyn and John. The stands were packed and they skated an amazing Senior Short Program. Their throw Triple Sal was beautiful. They truly looked amazing!

The rinks and the city look remarkable considering the short time that has passed since they were hit by Ike.  Tyler and Olivia have their official practice, warm-up, and event all on Saturday morning. They have been practicing at Memorial rink in a mall. Practices have been going very well. They are prepared and can't wait to skate in the morning.

Samantha David is also spending time with family and friends in Phoenix at her first Sectionals - Pacific Coasts.  She skated a clean Short Program today and is currently in 7th going into the Freeskate...go Samantha!!

We will fill you in on the final events of Saturday and of course the details of the competitors party.
